Unite for Literacy

UniteforLiteracyUnite for Literacy is a for-profit social enterprise that partners with businesses to change the literacy landscape of their communities, in this order: Colorado, the United States, and the world by introducing families to their free digital library.

Mission:

Unite for Literacy would like to illuminate the problem of book scarcity and initiate conversations across the public, private, and civic sectors about the geography of books and reading, in order to focus community efforts to create book abundance. They picture a world where all children have access to an abundance of books that celebrate their languages and cultures and cultivate a life-long love of reading.

Features:

Their original, non-fiction digital picture books support beginning readers of all ages. Children everywhere can see themselves in the books, with pictures that reflect a child’s view of the real world. The audio aids families who speak English, indigenous, or foreign languages (see below for actual languages). Audio buttons on the pages allows families to hear narrations by native speakers in warm, expressive voices. Studies have shown that children who come from homes with 100 books or more have three times the chance of completing 9th grade as those from bookless homes. Unite for Literacy provides digital books that can come through any electronic device into the home.
